1. An Unexplained Weariness That Sleep Doesn't Fix
Most adults feel tired now and then. But the fatigue tied to coronary artery disease is different: it feels bone-deep, unshakable, and disproportionate to your activity level. You might feel like you have run a marathon after just walking up a short flight of stairs. More tellingly, this fatigue does not go away after a good night's rest or a weekend of relaxation.
Why does CAD cause this? When plaque narrows the coronary arteries, the heart has to work harder to pump blood through a tighter passage. Over time, the pump itself becomes strained, and oxygen-rich blood cannot circulate as efficiently to your muscles and organs. Your body perceives this as a constant energy deficit, which registers as fatigue.

The medical term for this is angina equivalent—symptoms that feel like indigestion but are actually angina, especially when they occur during exertion and fade with rest.
The discomfort can feel like a burning sensation in the upper abdomen, a dull ache beneath the breastbone, or a feeling of fullness that is hard to burp away. Because the stomach and the heart share some of the same nerve pathways (the vagus nerve and the phrenic nerve), the brain can misread the distress signal coming from the heart as a digestive complaint.
One key distinction: true digestive indigestion usually happens after eating and does not improve when you stop moving. Cardiac-related indigestion or discomfort often appears during physical activity (like brisk walking or carrying groceries) and settles down when you sit and rest for a few minutes. Why These Signs Get Dismissed
There are a few reasons these symptoms fly under the radar. First, they do not match the "movie heart attack" script. Second, people tend to interpret new body sensations through the lens of what seems most likely: fatigue must be stress or poor sleep; burning must be something you ate.
